The Tigers fell to the St.Louis Cardinals tonight 3-1 in a fast moving game that lasted just two hours and twenty six minutes. Detroit led off the scoring in the third inning when Austin Jackson doubled in Gerald Laird to go up 1-0. That would be all of the scoring for the Tigers though,as they couldn't get a handle on Cardinals pitcher Jake Westbrook, who threw a five hit complete game. The Cardinals scored in the fifth when Daniel Descalso sacrificed in David Freese to knot it up at 1-1. St. Louis added a run in the sixth to go up 2-1, when Matt Holiday made it home on a fielder's choice. The Cardinals rounded out the scoring when Carlos Beltran took home on a fielding error from Jhonny Peralta. Rick Porcello continued with his inconsistent play allowing two runs on ten hits for his fifth loss on the year. Reliever Brayan Villarreal gave up the other run in relief.
Tigers catcher Gerald Laird left the game in the fifth inning with left hamstring cramping after tagging up and advancing from first to second on a deep flyout. Detroit will try to win their fourth consecutive series on Thursday when they send RHP Jacob Turner, who is making his season debut, to the mound. He will be facing RHP Kyle Lohse (6-2, 2.98)
