The Detroit Tigers take two of three defeating the Los Angeles Angels 5-2 today. Prince Fielder and Delmon Young hit back to back home runs in the sixth inning to put the Tigers up 4-1. Detroit added one more run in the eighth with a sacrifice fly from Quintin Berry. Los Angeles mustered only one off of Tiger's starter Max Scherzer who pitched seven strong innings allowing just the one run on four hits while striking out nine. Jose Valverde hit a batter, and gave up a run in the ninth, but that would be it. Ervin Santana pitched seven innings for the Angels allowing four runs on five hits to suffer the loss. L.A.'s superstar center fielder Mike Trout was one for four today with three strike outs. He did score his 100th run of the season though, becoming only the second Angels rookie to accomplish the feat. The other being Devon White, 103 runs in 159 games in 1987.

The Tigers have an off day Monday, then head to Kansas City for a three game set against the Royals. Tuesday night Detroit will send ace RHP Justin Verlander (12-7,2.50) to the mound to face RHP Luis Mendoza (7-9,4.26) Heading into this series Detroit trails the White Sox by two games. a good showing in K.C. will keep them within striking distance as we head down the strech.
