Doug Fister pitched seven innings giving up just two hits, and Austin Jackson and Miguel Cabrera hit homers to lift the Tigers past the White sox 5-3 on Tuesday night. The Tigers now trail the AL Central leading White Sox by just two games. The teams have split the first two games of a four game series, their last head-to-head meeting of the year. Detroit ended their four game losing streak, and have defeated the White Sox eight out of their last nine meetings. Austin Jackson hit his 14th homer of the season in the fifth inning followed by a single by Omar Infante. One batter later, Miguel Cabrera hit his 36th homer of the season to put the Tigers up 3-2, and Detroit never looked back.
Doug Fister did give up two solo home runs, but he didn't get rattled, lasting until the seventh inning. Joaquin Benoit and Jose Valverde shut down the Sox in the eighth and ninth innings respectively. The Tigers hope to continue their winning ways Wednesday night as they send Max Scherzer (15-6, 3.85) to the mound against Gavin Floyd (9-9, 4.55).
