Tigers catch break as rain postpones game against White Sox
Tuesday's game between the Detroit Tigers and the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field was postponed due to a forecast of impending rain. A makeup date has not yet been announced.
The rain was coming down hard around 6 p.m. ET. The forecast looked bleak and the game was called approximately two hours before the scheduled first pitch. Meanwhile in Kansas City, the Royals gave the Tigers a little breathing room in the AL Central Division by defeating Cleveland, 9-5. Detroit now leads the division by 2 & 1/2 games with K.C. closely behind by three games.
Both teams decided to push Tuesday's probable starters back a day and skip the original matchup for Wednesday. Justin Verlander will take on John Danks this Wednesday night at 8 pm, thus the Tigers will skip Drew Smyly. Aces Max Scherzer and Chris Sale will duel on Thursday as originally planned.
