Rain puts Tigers' hopes for first in AL Central on hold

Justin Verlander will have to wait until Friday night to showcase his skills. Rain postponed the Tigers-White Sox 4-game finale and will be made up this Monday afternoon in Chicago. Still behind the Sox by one game with a magic number of 20 against them, Detroit will look to take over the AL Central Division when they head to Cleveland for a 3-game weekend series.

AL EAST - With hard-fought wins, Baltimore & the N.Y. Yankees are still deadlocked for 1st place in the division.

AL WEST - Despite both teams losing, the Texas Rangers still lead the Oakland Athletics by three games with a magic number of 17.

AL WILD CARD - With a 6-0 shutout of Oakland and with Tampa Bay losing to Baltimore, the L.A. Angels are now next in line to be in the top two spots in the wild card race with a magic number of 16 against them.

NL CENTRAL - Even with their 2-1 victory over the L.A. Dodgers, St. Louis are way behind idle Cincinnati, with a magic umber of 8, by 11 games.

NL WEST - As San Francisco watched the L.A. Dodgers lose to St. Louis, the idle Giants improved their magic number to 12.

NL WILD CARD - As Atlanta watched St. Louis defeat Los Angeles, both teams reduced their magic number to 17.
