Don Kelly scored the tying run on a wild pitch in the 8th inning, then hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 9th that lifted the Detroit Tigers over the Oakland Athletics, 5-4, for a 2-0 lead in the AL Divisional Series. Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera doubled twice for the Tigers, hit a fly ball that Coco Crisp dropped for two runs, and later singled in the 9th inning. Detroit will go for the sweep in Game 3 this Tuesday night in Oakland.

The Nationals escaped a bases-loaded jam in the 7th inning and Tyler Moore blooped a two-out, two-run single in the 8th as Washington beat the defending World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals, 3-2, in the NL Divisional Series opener. The Nationals limited the Cardinals to just three hits. This Monday, Washington looks to go 2-0 in the series when Jordan Zimmermann opposes St. Louis' Jaime Garcia.

Russell Martin led off the 9th inning with a tiebreaking homerun off Jim Johnson and CC Sabathia turned in a pitching performance as the New York Yankees pulled away to a 7-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles in the opener of the AL Divisional Series. Sabathia allowed two runs and eight hits in 8 & 2/3 innings to help the Yankees take the edge off the Orioles' first home playoff game since 1997. Game 2 will be played this Monday night in Baltimore.

The Cincinnati Reds dominated the San Francisco Giants by shutting them out, 9-0, to take a commanding 2-0 lead in their NL Division Series. Bronson Arroyo, who was winless in his first six starts in San Francisco, retired his first 14 batters and delivered a gem a day after 19-game winner Johnny Cueto went down with a back injury. Game 3 in the best-of-five series is set for this Tuesday night at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. Homer Bailey (13-10), who pitched a no-hitter Sept. 28 at Pittsburgh, takes the mound as the Reds try to close out the series against Giants right-hander Ryan Vogelsong (14-9).
