The San Francisco Giants beat the St. Louis Cardinals 9-0 on Monday night to reach their second World Series in the last two years. The Giants won it all in 2010. After trailing the defending champion Cardinals three games to one, the Giants scratched and clawed their way to a series deciding game seven, and they came up big not allowing the Cardinals a single run while putting up nine of their own. Matt Cain pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up just five hits, and striking out four for the win. Kyle Lohse was ineffective for St. Louis giving up five runs on six hits lasting only two innings taking the loss. The Cardinals bullpen didn't fare much better allowing four more runs. Series MVP Marco Scutaro had his sixth multihit game of the series tying an LCS record with 14 hits. The Giants now move on to host the American League champion Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night. Detroit brings a very potent lineup that includes Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera, reigning AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander, and the stingiest starting rotation in the playoffs to the Bay Area. The Tigers will send Verlander to the mound to face Barry Zito in game 1 on Wednesday night for a 8:00 P.M. start.
