The 45th Anniversary of the 1968 Detroit Tigers World Series Team was still magical as it was when they won the World Series back in 1968. They played the St. Louis Cardinals lead by starter Bob Gibson, in Game One Gibson shows how powerful he was striking out 17 Detroit batters allowing only five hits and St. Louis beat the Tigers 4-0.

Game Two Manager Mayo Smith had adjustments made for the Tigers team as they took it to the Cardinals 8-1 and Starter Mickey Lolich hit his first career and only homer in Majors driving in two runs. Lolich struck out nine pitching a complete game six hitter allowing only one run.

Game Three back at Tiger Stadium in front of over 53,000 fans the Cardinals brought the long ball out as Tim McCarver hits a homer off of Tigers reliever Pat Dobson and they beat Detroit 7-3 for a 2-1 series lead. Al Kaline hit a two run homer in the third inning.

Game Four Bob Gibson back on the mound for St. Louis and Detroit could not answer him as the Cardinals bats took off and Gibson pitched a complete game five hitter and hit homer also beating the Tigers 10-1. It did not help that Detroit had four errors in the game.

Game Five: Final game of the series in Detroit and the Tigers had a must win and did not look good down 3-0 after one but the character of this team came out. Two runs in fourth innings and three in the seven including a tough call at home plate were Lou Brock was call out with the tag by catcher Bill Freehan. Detroit wins 5-3 down 3-2 going back to St. Louis for Games Six and Seven.
Game Six: Detroit can out swinging two runs in the second and a ten spot in the third, Denny McClain pitched a complete game striking out seven and the Tigers beat the Cardinals 13-1 tying this series at three games apiece.
Game Seven: Tigers starter Mickey Lolich came back to pitch on two days rest against Bob Gibson for one game and the World Series Title at stake. The game was scoreless until the seventh and in the Top of the inning, Jim Northrup's two run triple over the head of Cardinals Centerfielder Curt Flood opened a 2-0 lead for Detroit.
The Tigers increased their lead to 3-0 both teams traded runs in the ninth inning and Lolich went to work allowing five hits and another complete game and the series MVP with the Tigers winning the World Series in Game Seven 4-1.
