The San Francisco Giants swept out the Detroit Tigers in the World Series on Sunday night in 10 innings 4-3. The Giants got on the board first in the second inning when Brandon Belt tripled in Hunter Pence to go up 1-0. Miguel Cabrera gave Detroit their first lead of the series with a two-run homer in the third putting them up 2-1. Buster Posey followed in the sixth with a two-run bomb of his own giving the Giants a 3-2 lead. The see-saw continued in Detroit's part of the sixth when Delmon Young tied the game at three all with a solo homer. Giant starter Matt Cain pitched seven strong innings giving up three runs on five hits. Max Scherzer also pitched well for Detroit going 6 1/3, allowing three runs while striking out eight batters. In a battle of bullpens the giants prevailed shutting out the tigers in the eighth ninth, and tenth. Phil Coke came on in the top of the ninth striking out the side. The tenth inning was a different story. Marco Scutaro delivered a clutch two-out single in the tenth inning putting the Giants up for good 4-3. In a ironic twist Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera came up with two-outs in the tenth, but there would be no more heroics in 2012, as he struck out looking. Pablo Sandoval was named series MVP, as he went 8 for 16, including a three homer performance in game 1. The Giants dominated the series with a 1.42 ERA, they outscored Detroit 16-6, and held them to a .159 batting average, the third worst in World Series history. No team had ever come back from 3-0 in a World Series, and it would be no different in 2012. Detroit had a great season fighting all year, and they are the American League champions. Detroit will definitely make some moves in the off-season, and will have slugger Victor Martinez returning from injury. The Tigers will now lick their wounds, and move on for a better 2013. Before we know it those beautiful words will soon be uttered " pitchers and catchers report".
