Madison Bumgarner gave up only two hits over seven innings, Brandon Crawford knocked in the winning run on a double play ground ball after a perfect bunt by Gregor Blanco loaded the bases, and the San Francisco Giants go on to defeat the
Detroit Tigers 2-0 Thursday night to take a 2-0 lead in the World Series. It was a game of inches all night long. Prince Fielder was barely thrown out in the second inning on a throw to home plate that would have changed the complexion of the game, and soon after that Tiger pitcher Doug Fister was hit in the head by a line drive. Fister continued on, giving up just four hits through six innings. Drew Smyly came on in relief for Detroit in the seventh and surrendered a run putting the Giants up 1-0. Hunter Pence added an insurance run on a sacrifice fly in the eighth. That's all the runs San Francisco would need on the night. Santiago Casilla cruised in the eighth, and Sergio Romo closed it out in the ninth for the Giants as the Tigers could only muster two hits on the night. Detroit now heads back home to Comerica Park where they haveplayed well all year hoping for a resurgance. Detroit will send Anibal Sanchez (1-1, 1.35) to the mound on Saturday night to face Ryan Vogelsong (2-0, 1.42) for an 8:00 PM START.
