Anibal Sanchez and Phil Coke combined for a four hit shutout of the Yankees on Sunday afternoon in the Bronx. Sanchez pitched seven innings giving up just three hits while striking out seven batters getting the win (W, 1-0). Phil Coke assumed the closer role coming on in the eighth inning. Coke gave up just one hit and struck-out three hitters for the save (S, 1). Delmon Young
continued his playoff hitting streak driving in Quintin Berry on a fielders choice in the seventh. Detroit added two more runs in the eighth inning after second base umpire Jeff Nelson botched a call on a two-out tag at second base allowing Omar Infante to stay on base. Yankee manager Joe Girardi argued the call to no avail and was ejected from the game. Detroit now heads back to the friendly confines of Comerica Park for game three on Tuesday night when they send ace Justin Verlander (2-0, 0.56) to face Phil Hughes (0-0, 1.35) for an 8:00 P.M. start.
