Max Scherzer pitched seven innings while Victor Martinez hit a two run homer in the fourth inning Tigers beat Tampa 5-2. Scherzer (8-0) allowed a run and four hits striking out nine, becoming the first Tigers pitcher to reach 100 strikeouts in the team's first 58 games since 1972 ( where Mickey Lolich and Joe Colman had 103 both ).

The game was scoreless intil the fourth where Martinez connected on a two run homer off of Roberto Hernandez when single runs for Detroit in the 5th, 6th and 7th innings. Miguel Cabrera had three hits increasing his batting average to .373.

Jhonny Peralta had two hits also for his batting average to increase to .335. Jose Valverde had his seventh save of the season.
