Justin Verlander pitched seven strong innings for the Tigers Friday night in front of the home crowd of 39,000, holding the Cleveland Indians to just three runs on seven hits in seven innings of work. Victor Martinez got the scoring started in the second inning with a solo home-run. Detroit would score two more in the second, two in the fourth, and one each in the fifth and sixth innings. Indian starter Ubaldo Jimenez pitched just three innings surrendering five runs on seven hits. Cleveland's bullpen didn't fare much better allowing two more runs. Cleveland did make it interesting though, trailing 7-3 in the ninth, Jason Giambi, and Micheal Bourn hit solo homers of Tiger reliever Jose Valverde to make it 7-5. that would be the final though, as Valverde got Michael Brantley to ground out to end the game. Detroit hopes to make it two in a row against the Indians on Saturday afternoon at Comerica Park when they send RHP Rick Porcello (2-3, 5.21) to the mound to face RHP Justin Masterson (8-4, 3.57) for a 4:08 start.
