Doug Fister(5-4) gave up just three runs on nine hits in eight innings of work in Kansas City on Monday night. The quality start was wasted though, as Detroit could only muster two runs of their own. Miguel Cabrera opened up the scoring in the top of the third inning with a two-run homer, putting Detroit up 2-0. The Royals answered in the bottom frame of the third with three runs of their own, taking a 3-2 lead. That would be all the scoring in the game, as Kansas City starter Jeremy Guthrie went 6 1/3 innings allowing just those two runs on six hits. The Royals bullpen took care of the rest, as Crow, Collins, Herrera, and Holland shut out Detroit the rest of the way. Kansas City has now won six in a row, snapping Detroit's own four game winning streak. The Tigers hope to bounce back in game two on Tuesday night when they send RHP Max Scherzer (8-0, 3.24) to face RHP Wade Davis (3-5, 5.66) for a 8:10 start.
