Verlander's near no-hitter helps Tigers shut down Rangers, 5-0
Justin Verlander took a no-hitter into the 7th inning before Mitch Moreland broke it up with a double, but it was just enough for the Detroit Tigers to shutout the Texas Rangers, 5-0.
The Tigers supplied plenty of offense with homeruns from Torii Hunter in the 1st inning, and Victor Martinez & Jhonny Peralta hitting back to back homers in the 4th inning. Relievers Drew Smyly and Joaquin Benoit took care of business out of the bullpen to solidify the 5-0 shutout victory.
After Cleveland defeated Kansas City, 6-4, Detroit goes into the All-Star break with a game & a half lead in the AL Central division with the record of 52-42. After the All-Star Game in Queens, New York this Tuesday, the Tigers will return to action in Kansas City against the Royals this Friday night at 8 pm.
