Datsyuk returns as Red Wings defeat Panthers, 3-1
As Russia's olympic captain Pavel Datsyuk returned from injury, Gustav Nyquist scored the go-ahead goal in the 2nd period to help the Detroit Red Wings defeat the Florida Panthers, 3-1.
Brian Lashoff & Daniel Alfredsson also scored for Detroit and goaltender Jimmy Howard made 23 saves as the Red Wings ended a four-game road losing streak. The Panthers managed only two shots in the 1st period, which is a season-low for a period. At the end of the 2nd period, Florida was outshot 23-8.
Before heading off to Sochi, Russia for the 2014 winter olympics, the Red Wings will travel to Tampa Bay to face the Lightning this Saturday night at 7 pm.
