Last Tuesday (September 23), with a 3-2 victory over the Atlanta Braves, the Pittsburgh Pirates clinched a 2014 Wild Card berth in the National League. It's the Pirates second straight playoff appearance, but they're work is not done yet, for Pittsburgh is hopeful to catch up to St. Louis, who is currently in 1st place in the NL Central Division.

The next day (Sept. 24), even with a Milwaukee loss, claiming the second NL Wild Card spot was bittersweet for the San Francisco Giants as Los Angeles proved too much to handle as the Dodgers came away with a 9-1 victory to become the 2014 National League West Division Champions. The win helped clinched home-field advantage in the NLDS.

This Saturday in the American League, the playoff-bound Detroit Tigers will attempt to claim the Central Division when they face Minnesota at Comerica Park at 7 pm. With their magic number at 2, Detroit will need to have Kansas City, who are also playoff-bound, lose to the Chicago White Sox in order to celebrate. As for the wild card spot, Oakland needs to defeat Texas or have Seattle lose to the Al West champion L.A. Angels in order to clinch. Meanwhile in the National League, St. Louis' magic number is 2 and can claim the NL Central with a win against Arizona & a Pittsburgh loss to Cincinnati.
