Red Wings open 2014-15 season with 2-1 win over Boston
The Detroit Red Wings opened the 2014-15 season with a 2-1 win against the Boston Bruins at the Joe Louis Arena. After committing a few turnovers early in the game, Detroit pressured Boston and held the Bruins to only 17 shots on goal.
Gustav Nyquist's power-play goal in the 2nd period proved to be the game-winner. Justin Abdelkader also scored for the Detroit and Johan Franzen finished with two assists. Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard made a couple of big saves late after allowing a goal in the 1st period.
With the Red Wings starting off on the right foot, they will take their momentum to Saturday night's game against Anaheim. The game is set to begin at 7 pm at the Joe Louis Arena.
