Red Wings take over 2nd period in 4-1 win over Chicago
Johan Franzen and Tomas Tatar both scored during Detroit's dominant second period as the Red Wings took down the Chicago Blackhawks, 4-1. Detroit outshot Chicago 20-8 in that period.
Luke Glendening put Detroit on the board six minutes into the game, Brendan Smith scored on an empty netter, goaltender Jimmy Howard stopped 25 shots for his 7th victory, and Pavel Datsyuk made his return to the ice with an assist after missing two games with a sore groin.
The Red Wings continue their Original Six marathon this Sunday night when they host the Montreal Canadiens inside the Joe Louis Arena at 7 pm.
