Matthew Stafford, returning from shoulder surgery back in January, threw two touchdown passes in as many series and leaving before a defender laid a hand on him as the Detroit Lions won their preseason opener, 34-3, over the Cincinnati Bengals at Ford Field.

Stafford led a seven-play, 67-yard drive to open the game, capped by a 26-yard touchdown pass to Calvin Johnson. After the Lions recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff, Stafford hit Nate Burleson for a 7-yard score that was originally ruled incomplete on the field.

Backup quarterback Shaun Hill finished 8 of 9 passing for 63 yards and ran for a touchdown, Drew Stanton was 7 of 15 for 110 yards, and No. 4 quarterback Zac Robinson led two scoring drives.

The Lions also forced three turnovers, recovering a fumbled kicked off on Cincinnati's opening possession and getting interceptions from Chris Houston and Ricardo Silva.
