Sweep denied again as Twins crushed Tigers, 11-4
Luke Hughes hit two homeruns to help the Minnesota Twins take out their hitting frustration on Brad Penny and the Detroit Tigers by stopping a seven-game losing streak with an 11-4 victory.
Roman Santiago had four hits and two RBIs, while Brad Penny (9-10) gave up eight hits, seven runs and two walks in five innings. He struck out five, but this was another non-Justin Verlander start by the rotation. The Tigers are 52-52 when their right-hander doesn’t start the game, but they’re 21-8 when he does.
Despite the loss, the Tigers have won 8 out of their last 10 games and finished their recent road trip at 5-2. Detroit continues their 20-game stretch when they return home to Comerica Park to face the Kansas City Royals in a 4-game series, including a makeup game from mid-May on Thursday. First game begins this Monday night at 7 pm.
