Tigers' magic number now in single digits at 9
The Detroit Tigers, winners of eight straight games, reduced their magic number to 9, thanks in part to the White Sox' cameback in extra innings against the Indians. Looking forward to next weekend, any combination of Tigers wins and White Sox or Indians losses that equal nine will give Detroit their first AL Central divison title since 1987.
Elsewhere in the American League, the N.Y. Yankees are still holding on to their lead in the East, Texas still has a slim lead in the West, and Boston still has the advantage in the wild card race.
In the National League, Philadelphia inch closer to claiming the East, Milwaukee struggles to advance forward with their lead in the Central, Arizona still has control of the West, and Atlanta is still hanging on to their lead in the wild card race.
