Victor Martinez had two hits and three RBIs as the Detroit Tigers beat the Kansas City Royals, 6-3.

Detroit split the two-game set in Kansas City in its final road game of the regular season. The Tigers have four games against Baltimore and three against the Indians to close out the season at Comerica Park.

Tigers starting pitcher Max Scherzer went five innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits and a walk while striking out five on 84 pitches. Doug Fister, who relieved Scherzer in the sixth, pitched three innings and gave up an unearned run on two hits while striking out two on just 39 pitches.

Jose Valverde finished out the 9th inning for his 47th consecutive save, extending his own Tigers record.
