Flyers & LA fight their way to 3-0 leads; Florida tie series
Danny Briere, Matt Read and Max Talbot each scored two goals to lead the Philadelphia Flyers to an 8-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins in a fight-filled Game 3 in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.
Though Philadelphia took a commanding 3-0 series lead, this one was all about the brawls as three players were tossed in the first period. There was even a rare fight between superstars when Sidney Crosby squared off against Claude Giroux. After the fights settled down, Flyers fans bombarded the Penguins with booming chants of ''You can't beat us!''
Stephen Weiss scored the first two playoff goals of his career and Jose Theodore stopped 23 shots as the Florida Panthers got their first playoff victory since April 17, 1997, topping the New Jersey Devils, 4-2 to even the Eastern Conference quarterfinals at one game apiece.
Jonathan Quick made 41 saves and Dustin Brown scored on a long rebound with 13:30 to play as the 8th-seed Los Angeles Kings pushed the Vancouver Canucks to the edge of a shocking playoff exit with a 1-0 victory in Game 3 of the Western Conference quarterfinals. The Kings will have a chance to sweep the President's Trophy winners this Wednesday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
