Max Scherzer set a career high tonight winning his 16th game of the year, pitching six strong innings, giving up just one run on four hits, and adding seven strike-outs, giving him the major league lead with 220. The only run that he allowed was a solo homer to Kevin Youkilis in the fourth inning. With the Tigers leading 3-1, Prince Fielder broke the game open with a three-run homer in the seventh inning putting Detroit up 6-1. The Tigers added two more runs in the eighth, giving them a 8-1 lead. The White Sox were not finished scoring though, as they came barreling back. Kevin Youkilis hit his second homer of the night, a three run shot to make it 8-5. The Sox would score one more in the ninth, but Jose Valverde would hold on for his 30th save of the season. The Tigers escape with the 8-6 victory putting them just one game behind the AL Central leading White Sox. Thursday night's series finale will be a battle of pitching aces, as Detroit sends Justin Verlander to the mound to face left-hander Chris Sale.
