The Tigers lost their manager, their catcher, and an important game in the AL Central race as they lost when the Indians rallied in the ninth for a 7-6 win. Detroit jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, as Brennan Boesch reached on a bases-loaded infield single when Ubaldo Jimenez committed an error throwing to first. Rick Porcello pitched well until the fourth inning, when Shin-soo choo hit a bloop single knocking in two runs. Tiger manager Jim Leyland was ejected in the bottom of the fifth inning by 1B umpire Brian Knight. Detroit lost catcher Alex Avila in the sixth inning when he collided with Prince Fielder as they were both chasing a foul ball in front of the Tiger dugout. Detroit went up 6-5 in the seventh inning on a three-run homer from Miguel Cabrera, the 402-ft drive coming off of Cleveland reliever Joe Smith. The Indians would rally in the bottom of the ninth when Carlos Santana hit a RBI triple scoring Jason Kipnis to make it 6-6. In the ninth inning, after two intentional walks from Tiger closer Jose Valverde, Lonnie Chisenhall singled in Carlos Santana to win the game 7-6. The Tigers lost ground falling two games back of the Chicago White Sox, who beat the Minnesota Twins 9-2 on Sunday. Detroit will play a make-up game in Chicago on Monday afternoon sending Doug Fister (9-8, 3.49) to face Jose Quintana (6-4, 3.52) game start time 2:10 p.m.
