Senior/junior kicker Brendan Gibbons converted his third field goal of the game, from 38 yards with nine seconds left in the contest, to give the Michigan Wolverines its first win over the Michigan State Spartans in five years, 12-10, at Michigan Stadium. The victory marked the 900th in Michigan football history. For the fifth consecutive game, the Michigan defense held its opponent to 13 points or less. Leading the squad were junior/sophomore linebacker Jake Ryan, who tallied 10 tackles with a sack & a forced fumble, and sophomore linebacker Desmond Morgan, who garnered 11 takedowns. Senior quarterback Denard Robinson led the offense, compiling 163 yards through the air to complement his 96 yards rushing. Senior/junior running back Fitzgerald Toussaint added 52 yards on the ground, while junior receiver Drew Dileo hauled in career highs with four passes for 92 yards.

Eastern Michigan's offense led the Eagles to a 48-38 non-conference football win over a visiting Army Black Knights at Rynearson Stadium in Ypsilanti. For the Eagles it was their first win of the season against six losses while also their first over a non-conference NCAA FBS school since a 31-10 win over Louisiana-Lafayette on September 10, 2005. EMU piled up 577 yards in total offense, 369 though the air and 208 on the ground. Eagles redshirt sophomore quarterback Tyler Benz threw for five touchdowns to tie for second in the EMU single-game record book with Andy Schmitt and his 369 passing yards is the 18th best in school history. Benz completed 19-of-31 passes. Eastern sophomore running back Bronson Hill rushed for 185 yards on 26 carries with one touchdown while senior tight end Garrett Hoskins hauled in seven passes for 158 yard and a score.

Senior receiver Cody Wilson set a career-high with two touchdown catches and tied his season-high with 111 receiving yards, but the Central Michigan Chippewas were defeated on Homecoming by the Ball State Cardinals, 41-30. The Chippewas (2-5, 0-3 MAC) gained virtually the same number of yards as the Cardinals (5-3, 3-2 MAC), 464-446, on 17 fewer plays and outpassed Ball State, 339-231, but only converted two of 10 third-down opportunities to stall potential scoring drives. Senior quarterback Ryan Radcliff threw for 339 yards on 23-38 passing with three touchdowns and a first-quarter interception, while Wilson recorded his fourth 100-yard receiving game of the season and extended his consecutive games with a catch streak to 36 games, the third-longest active run in the country.

The Western Michigan Broncos fell victim to the Kent State Golden Flashes, 41-24, as six turnovers impeded what was a stellar offensive day for WMU. Tyler Van Tubbergen threw for 333 yards on 30-of-57 passing, all career highs. Josh Schaffer had a career high nine grabs for 151 yards, including an 81-yard TD catch on the Broncos' second drive of the game. It was the fifth longest one-play drive in WMU history and the Broncos third one-play drive of 2012.
