YSU, GB, & UIC win at home in 1st round of HL tourney

Sophomore guard DJ Cole drove in a layup with 2.5 seconds left as the #6 Youngstown State Penguins earned a hard-fought win against the #7 Loyola Ramblers, 62-60 in the first round of the Horizon League Tournament at Beeghly Center.

With the win, the Penguins advanced to play the #3 Wright State Raiders in the quarterfinals this Friday night at 6 pm ET on the campus of Valparaiso University. The winner will move on to face the #2 seed and defending Horizon League champion Detroit Titans in the semifinals this Satruday.



Meanwhile in the state of Wisconsin, #4 Green Bay held #9 Milwaukee to just 26.5% shooting and outrebound the Panthers 47-35 as the Phoenix posted a 62-46 victory in the opening round of the Horizon League Tournament at the Resch Center. With the win, Green Bay polished off a three-game season sweep of its in-state league rival and advanced to Friday's quarterfinals.



From there , they will face the #5 UIC Flames, who dominated the first round with an 82-59 win over the #8 Cleveland State Vikings at the Pavilion in Chicago. The quarterfinals are set to begin at approx. 8:30 pm ET, and thus the winner will advance to take on the host & #1 seed Valparaiso Crusaders in the semifinals this Saturday night at 8:30 pm ET.
