Scherzer goes 13-0 in Tigers' 6-2 win over Blue Jays
Max Scherzer extended his winning streak to 13-0 to start the season, which is a first in franchise history for a pitcher to start a season with that many wins as the Detroit Tigers took care of the Toronto Blue Jays, 6-2, at Rogers Centre.
Scherzer is the first pitcher since Roger Clemens, who went 14-0 in 1986, to open a season with 13 wins. However, the victory was overshadowed by what Scherzer called a “dirty play” by Blue Jays outfielder Colby Rasmus in the 4th inning that caused Tigers second baseman Omar Infante to leave the game with a left shin contusion after Rasmus slid feet-first to second base.
All-star front runner Miguel Cabrera also left the game, but only due to a stiff back in the 9th inning. The Tigers will spend the 4th of July in Canada as they wrap up the 4-game series with Toronto this Thursday night at 7 pm.
