Snow-covered Lions slip & fall to Philadelphia, 34-20
While the Motor City merely had a half-inch of snow thrown on the roads, Philadelphia was dumped with at least six inches of snow as the Eagles overcame two TD returns by Jeremy Ross by scoring 28 points in the 4th quarter to defeat the Detroit Lions, 34-20.
Snow began falling two hours before kickoff and intensified after the game started. Workers used shovels and hand-held blowers to clear off yard lines. Conditions were so poor that neither team tried a field goal and there were 2-point conversion attempts after seven of the eight TDs.
The conditions did not favor the Lions as they lost running back Reggie Bush when he fell on the slippery field during warmups and re-injured his calf. Quarterback Matthew Stafford fumbled three snaps in the 1st quarter & had a costly turnover in the 4th and Joique Bell lost two fumbles inside the red zone in the 1st half.
Despite Detroit's misfortunes, wide receiver Calvin Johnson passed Herman Moore for most yards receiving in franchise history on a 33-yard catch late in the 1st quarter. The Lions will return home to Ford Field for Monday Night Football next week when they take on the reigning Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens.
