Undefeated UConn women & 7 others make it to the Big Dance
The Marist Red Foxes won their 10th women's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship in program history, and their ninth consecutive, with a 70-66 come-from-behind victory over the Quinnipiac Bobcats.
The Albany Great Danes defeated the Stony Brook Seawolves, 70-46, at the SEFCU Arena for its third-straight America East women's title. Albany (28-4) has earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Women's Tournament and will find out where they're going during the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, March 17th at 7 p.m.
The Chattanooga Mocs (29-3) won their 15th women's Southern Conference Championship with a 71-45 victory over the Davidson Wildcats. It's the 25th win in a row for UTC, who will enter the NCAA tournament for the 12th time in school history and sixth in the last nine years.
Breanna Stewart scored 20 points as the top-ranked Connecticut Huskies tore apart the Louisville Cardinals, 72-52, to win the inaugural women's American Athletic Conference tournament. It's the 19th conference tournament championship for the Huskies, who won their first 18 when they were in the Big East Conference. With the victory, UConn (34-0) becomes the 14th team to enter the NCAA tournament without a loss and it's the sixth time that the Huskies have accomplished that feat. They've gone on to win the national championship four of those years.
Delaware earned a return trip to the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament for the first time since 1999 after the Blue Hens rallied past the William & Mary Tribe, 75-74, to become the 2014 Colonial Athletic Association champions at the Baltimore Arena.
Manhattan Jaspers' first trip to the NCAA tournament in a decade came at the expense of rival Iona one year after the Gaels beat them for the conference championship. George Beamon scored 16 points for Manhattan as they defeated Iona, 71-68, to become the 2014 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champions.
Odyssey Sims overcame an ankle injury and scored 19 points to help the Baylor Bears defeat the West Virginia Mountaineers, 74-71, to win the 2014 Big 12 women's championship.
In the Southern Conference Championship at U.S. Cellular Center, the Wofford Terriers defeated the Western Carolina Catamounts, 56-53, to win the SoCon title. The Terriers earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in the last five years.
