Duke crushes MSU; Non-call ends Kentucky's perfect season
Justise Winslow scored 19 points, freshman Jahlil Okafor added 18 points, and senior Quinn Cook finished with 17 points to lead the #1 Duke Blue Devils to an 81-61 victory over the #7 Michigan State Spartans in the first game of the Final Four.
Denzel Valentine had 11 rebounds for the Spartans (27-12) while Travis Trice ended the season with 16 points. Michigan State shot 40% from the field (22-of-55) for the game, but were just 30% (8-of-27) in the 1st half.
Head coach Mike Krzyzewski will lead his Blue Devils once again to a national championship this Monday night in Indianapolis, where he won his first title.
The #1 Wisconsin Badgers went into Indianapolis, a virtual Big Ten town, and ended the #1 Kentucky Wildcats' pursuit of perfection with a 71-64 victory behind 20 points & 11 rebounds from Frank Kaminsky and a clutch comeback down the stretch.
However, the comeback began with controversy. With a little over two minutes remaining in the game, Wisconsin's Nigel Hayes tied the game at 60 by tipping in an air ball, but the shot clock had expired before the ball left his hands. The referees did not make the call nor did they review it during a timeout, allowing momentum and mindsets of coaches & players to be altered in favor of the Badgers.
Nevertheless, Wisconsin will head into the national championship this Monday night at 9:18 pm to take on Duke in a rematch from earlier this season. The Badgers lost at home, 80-70, to Duke back in December.
