Red Wings fall back in playoff race after 2-1 loss to Capitals
Washington's goalie Braden Holtby stopped 35 shots and Mike Green added a goal & an assist as the Capitals clinched a playoff spot by defeating the Detroit Red Wings, 2-1.
Darren Helm scored Detroit's only goal and stating goaltender Petr Mrazek finished with 26 saves. The Red Wings, trying to reach the playoffs for the 24th straight season, remained tied with Boston for 3rd place in the Atlantic Division and just two points ahead of the Ottawa Senators, who sits in 9th place in the Eastern Conference.
Detroit will play their last regular season home game at the Joe Louis Arena this Tuesday night against the Carolina Hurricanes. Game time is set for 7:30 pm. As the Red Wings attempt to stay in the playoff picture, Ottawa will host Pittsburgh at the same time & day.
