WMU shut down by Miami U. in CCHA Championship
Miami captured its first Mason Cup in program history with a 5-2 win over Western Michigan Saturday night at the Joe Louis Arena. The RedHawks were winless in three previous trips to the championship game.
Western Michigan (19-12-10 overall) fought back from an early 2-0 deficit to tie the game at 2:38 of the third period. Miami (23-9-6) responded with three goals in an eight-minute span to wrap up the title.
Cody Reichard, the 2009-10 CCHA Player and Goaltender of the Year, finished with 14 saves to collect the win. This year's CCHA Player of the Year Andy Miele was named tournament MVP.
