Franzen's hat trick powers Red Wings past Colorado, 5-2
Detroit's power play and a hat trick from Johan Franzen got the Red Wings a second straight victory after they scored two of the three straight goals for a 5-2 win against their old arch-rival Colorado Avalanche at the Joe Louis Arena.
In the last two games they won, the Red Wings combined for 10 goals after scoring a total of six in a six-game skid following a 5-0 start.
Wings' captain Nicklas Lidstrom started the scoring with a slap shot from the slot off a giveaway midway through the first period and Dan Cleary scored off his own rebound against Avs goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere to essentially seal the win with 5:14 left in the game.
