Prince Fielder accumulated nearly twice as many fan votes as Albert Pujols (now with the L.A. Angels) to earn the start for the American League in the 2012 All-Star Game.

He will be joined by teammates Miguel Cabrera and Justin Verlander at the mid-summer classic on July 10th in Kansas City.

Reliever Joaquin Benoit and centerfielder Austin Jackson were not named to the All-Star Game, but both remain possibilities to replace injured selections or players opting out.

Fielder became a four-time All-Star and will be making his third start. Currently, he's batting .296 with 12 homeruns and 53 RBIs.

Both Cabrera and Verlander, the 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young Award winner, were named by virtue of the player balloting. Verlander led all pitchers with 258 votes, and Cabrera had 508 votes to finish first among third basemen.

Cabrera, making his 7th All-Star team, is tied for second in the league with 62 RBIs. He is batting .314 with 16 homeruns. Verlander became a five-time All-Star and is a candidate to earn the starting assignment. He’s 8-5 with a 2.69 ERA that ranks 4th in the league. He leads the league with 121 strikeouts and 123 2/3 innings pitched.
