Cabrera & Scherzer leads AL to 5-3 win over NL at All-Star Game

Detroit Tigers' own Miguel Cabrera drilled a two-run homerun off of a 100-mph pitch from St. Louis' Adam Wainwright in the 1st inning to help the American League defeat the National League, 5-3, in the 2014 MLB All-Star Game in Minnesota.  The last time a Tiger hit a homerun at an All-Star game was when second baseman Lou Whitaker hit one back in 1986 in Houston, Texas.



Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer entered and pitched a scoreless 5th inning, and with the help of All-Star MVP Mike Trout of the L.A. Angels hitting a double to drive in the go-ahead run, Scherzer got credit for the victory.

The second half of the season begins this Friday night with Detroit hosting the Cleveland Indians inside Comerica Park at 7 pm.  As of now, the Tigers are in the 1st place in the AL Central Division (53-38 ) with a 6 & 1/2 game lead over 2nd-place Kansas City.  If the playoffs were to begin today, Detroit, Oakland, Baltimore, L.A. Dodgers, Milwaukee, & Washington would be division champions while the L.A. Angels, Seattle, Atlanta, & San Francisco would serve as the wild card teams.
