Rain pushes Tigers-Twins series opener to Sunday night
For the second time in just over a week, rain has postponed a Tigers game. This time, it's the weekend series opener against the Twins at Comerica Park and it will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader on Sunday. Sunday's originally scheduled game is still set for 1:05 p.m. ET. The makeup game will start at 7:05.
The resulting doubleheader means the Tigers will play 13 games over the final 12 days of the regular season, including six games over the next five.
Doug Fister will start Saturday's game as scheduled opposite Sam Deduno, who was Minnesota's scheduled starter for Friday. Drew Smyly, who was on hold to start Sunday if Max Scherzer wasn't ready, is now scheduled to start one of the games Sunday. The other is on hold, presumably pending Scherzer's status.
Scherzer is scheduled to throw one more session Saturday. If he gets through that pain-free, he's expected to be cleared to start Sunday. If Scherzer can't go, that assignment could go to Rick Porcello, who was scheduled to pitch Friday before the rainout.
