Thanks to Prince Fielder's 2-run homerun in the 8th inning to defeat Minnesota, 2-1, and with the Chicago White Sox losing to Tampa Bay 6-2, the Detroit Tigers' magic number is down to 1 in the AL Central Division. With a trip to Kansas City for a 3-game series to wrap up the regular season, the Tigers could clinch the division title with a win against the Royals Monday night or a White Sox loss to Cleveland.
NL EAST - Washington's quest for a division title is stalled once again with the 10-4 loss to St. Louis while Atlanta moved to within three games behind them with a 6-2 win over the N.Y. Mets. The Nationals still have the magic number of 1 and could clinch the division title with a win Monday night or an Atlanta loss.
AL WILD CARD - With the win over the White Sox, the Tampa Bay Rays are now tied with the L.A. Angels in the hunt for the top two spots in the race, currently lead by Oakland & the AL East leaders, but the magic number of 1 is against them and could be eliminated from the postseason if they both lose Monday night.
AL WEST - Even though Texas & Oakland both won, the Rangers reduced their magic number to 2 and could win the division title Monday night with a win against the A's in Oakland.
NL WILD CARD - The L.A. Dodgers defeated Colorado, 7-1, but with Atlanta & St. Louis both winning as well, the magic number of 2 is now against them and could be out of the hunt if they lose Monday night & if the Cardinals win.
AL EAST - Once again, Baltimore & the N.Y. Yankees remain tied for first place in the division after big wins on Sunday.
