Scherzer earns 16th win as Tigers shutout White Sox, 3-0
On a special Latin night, where Detroit wore 'Tigres' uniforms, Max Scherzer improved to 16-1, matching his career high for wins in a season as the Tigers made short work of the Chicago White Sox with a 3-0 shutout win in front of 43,906 at Comerica Park.
Scherzer allowed only three hits and three walks and had six strikeouts. It's the 8th time this season that the Tigers have recorded a shutout and it was also the Tigers’ 7th straight victory.
White Sox starter John Danks gave up solo homeruns to Torii Hunter in the 1st inning, Jhonny Peralta in the 2nd, and newcomer Jose Iglesias in the 4th. Hunter’s homerun was his 12th of the season, Peralta's was an estimated 444 feet for his 11th homerun, and Iglesias’ homerun was his second of the season and first as a Tiger.
The Tigers will attempt to sweep the weekend series against Chicago this Sunday afternoon at 1 pm before heading to Cleveland to start the first full week of August.
