Howard injures groin as Red Wings lose to Washington, 3-1
Shortly after earning a selection for his second NHL All-Star game, Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard left the ice on a stretcher due to a groin injury after Troy Brouwer's powerplay goal just 1:53 into the game. Later in the night, the Washington Capitals defeated Detroit, 3-1.
In attempting to stop Brouwer's shot, Howard stretched a little too far across the crease and was attended to soon after the goal. Jonathan Ericsson scored his first goal of the season for Detroit and backup gaoltender Petr Mrazek made 12 saves in relief.
While Howard returns to Detroit for more medical attention, the Red Wings will head to Buffalo this Tuesday night to face the Sabres at 7 pm.
