On a day where both teams wore special throwback uniforms, MSU's junior running back Edwin Baker was determined to pound the ball, and he did as the Michigan State Spartans earned a 28-14 victory over the Michigan Wolverines at Spartan Stadium.

The team with the rushing edge has now won 39 of the last 42 games in the series. The Spartans have outrushed Michigan, 826-356, during the current four-game winning streak. Michigan State finished with a 213-82 edge in rushing against Michigan.

The windy conditions made it tough on the passing game, but also tough on running backs who had to try and run against the wind.

Alex Gillett scored on a 30-yard run with 37 seconds left as the Eastern Michigan Eagles upset the Central Michigan Chippewas, 35-28 despite blowing a late 15-point lead.

Central Michigan (2-5, 1-2 Mid-American Conference) had tied the game at 28 when Ryan Radcliff hit Jerry Harris with a 2-yard touchdown pass with 1:09 remaining, then found Titus Davis on a two-point conversion. However, Gillett needed only three plays to get the Eagles (4-3, 2-1) back on top, completing a 14-yard pass before a 20-yard run and the game-winning 30-yard score. Gillett had just 76 yards passing, but rushed for 93 more.

Western Michigan (4-3, 2-1) led early after getting a 16-yard touchdown pass from Alex Carder, who was 25 of 43 for 194 yards, and a late touchdown pass by backup Tyler VanTubbergen.
