Titans win Horizon home opener; U-M women take down MSU
Juwan Howard Jr. led the way with 26 points – 20 of which were in the 2nd half - as the Detroit Titans defeated the defending Horizon League champion Milwaukee Panthers, 83-67, at Calihan Hall. The win ended UDM's six-game losing streak and improved their record to 7-9 (1-1 HL).
Howard Jr. also had five rebounds and a team and game-high six assists. Anton Wilson finished with 12 points with five rebounds & three assists while Paris Bass added 14 points & four rebounds.
Staying at Calihan Hall, Detroit will take a week off to get ready to host their newest Horizon League & in-state rival Oakland this Saturday afternoon at 3 pm.
Katelynn Flaherty scored 21 points, including five 3-pointers, to help the Michigan Wolverines pull off a big 74-65 win over the Michigan State Spartans in Ann Arbor.
Siera Thompson finished the night with 17 points and Cyesha Goree added 14 on 6-for-10 shooting while also pulling in nine rebounds for Michigan (10-4, 2-1 Big Ten), who shot 44% from the floor and forced 24 turnovers. Shannon Smith contributed with 11 points and seven assists in the win for U-M.
The Wolverines will hit the road this Tuesday night when they travel to New Jersey to face Rutgers at 7 pm while Michigan State (8-6, 0-3 Big Ten) will head back to East Lansing to host Nebraska this Wednesday night at 8:30 pm.
