One more win and the Tigers clinch the AL Central
The Detroit Tigers will not be denied this year of winning the AL Central, especially after coming from behind in the 9th inning to beat the White Sox in the 10th, 6-5. With Cleveland losing to Texas again, Detroit's magic number is down to 2. If the Tigers are to claim the Central tonight, they would need to defeat the A's in Oakland and for the Indians to lose once more to Texas. In addition, having Chicago lose to Kansas City would further clear the path for the Tigers to win the division.
AL EAST - With the Yankees & the Red Sox losing, New York's magic number went down to only 11.
AL WEST - The L.A. Angels continue to keep pace with Texas, trailing 3 games back after defeating Oakland, but the Rangers prevailed as well, knocking down Cleveland to bring their magic number down to 11.
AL WILD CARD - Boston & Tampa Bay both lost, but the Red Sox' magic number went down to 11. However the Rays & Angels are catching up to the Sox trailing 4 & 4 1/2 games back respectively.
NL EAST - After defeating Houston, Philadelphia have officially entered the playoffs, but are still, at least, two games away from claiming the division with their magic number at 4.
NL CENTRAL - Milwaukee's magic number remains at 8 after losing to Colorado while St. Louis defeated Pittsburgh.
NL WEST - The magic number stalls at 6 for Arizona after their loss to the L.A. Dodgers while San Francisco took down San Diego.
NL WILD CARD - With Atlanta & St. Louis both winning, the Braves' magic number is reduced to 9.
