The Detroit Tigers were on their way to victory behind a strong performance from Max Scherzer, and a home-run from Prince Fielder giving them a 3-1 lead going into the ninth inning. Scherzer gave up just three hits with one walk and eight strike-outs. Austin Jackson singled in a run in the 3rd, Prince Fielder homered in the 6th, and Avisail Garcia drove in a run in the 8th giving Detroit a 3-1 lead going into the ninth inning. The Tiger bullpen kept the Athletics off the board setting up Jose Valverde for the ninth inning. Oakland went on a tear in the ninth when Seth Smith hit a two-run double tying the game 3-3. Coco Crisp then singled in Smith giving the A's the come from behind victory handing Valverde the loss. It's winner take all in game five on Thursday night as Detroit sends their ace Justin Verlander to the mound to face Jarrod Parker for a 9;37 start.
