Inge homers as Tigers beat the Marlins, 6-1

Brandon Inge first homer of spring training helped the Tigers beat the Florida Marlins 6-1. Justin Verlander (2-0) allowed one run in four innings, and five Detroit relievers pitched one scoreless inning apiece.

Inge has only one career at-bat during the regular season in the cleanup spot, but manager Jim Leyland put him there with several starters taking the night off. Scott Sizemore drove in two runs for the Tigers.

Verlander gave up a run for the first time in three spring training starts but struck out four and walked none. He pitched at night for the first since last season and said he liked being under the lights again.
