Early slump continues as Tigers go down to Texas, 2-0
Justin Verlander went the distance, throwing 119 pitches, but he couldn't get any run support as the Tigers’ bats fell silent in their loss to the Texas Rangers, 2-0. Verlander had a classic pitchers' duel against Rangers starter Alexi Ogando, who worked seven innings and allowed only two of the Tigers’ four hits. And among the Tigers' four hits, Miguel Cabrera set a milestone Monday by notching the 300th double of his career.
With a rough start to the season at 3-7, the Tigers will try again to dig themselves out of last place in the AL Central Tuesday against the 9-1 Rangers at Comerica Park. Starting at the mound for Detroit will be Brad Penny, who will go up against Texas starter C.J. Wilson.
